Ignacio M. Garcia is the Lemuel Hardison Redd Jr. Professor of Western & Latino History at Brigham Young University. He is the author of 7 books dealing with Chicano/a/Latino/a civil rights and radical politics, several essays on Latino/a Latter-day Saints, and a memoir Chicano While Mormon : Activism, War and Keeping the Faith. He recently ended his term as President of the Mormon History Association. He also served twice as bishop in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While in Vietnam as head of an Army medical dispensary in the Mekong Delta, he served as a district missionary and baptized his only convert in a Vietnamese motel swimming pool.
