Sylvia Cabus has worked on gender equality and women’s empowerment issues for over twenty years. Currently she is a senior technical advisor in the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Hub at the US Agency for International Development. Sylvia received a BA in History from UC Berkeley and an MA in international relations from the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) of the Johns Hopkins University, and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Cameroon. Sylvia was born in the Philippines and grew up in southern California, lived in Francophone West Africa for 9 years, and now calls Washington DC home with her husband and 8 year old son. Sylvia joined the Church at the age of 27 between Peace Corps and graduate school. She is a member of the Capitol Hill Ward in Washington DC and serves as the Public Affairs Specialist despite sending her Ordain Women profile to her bishop. Sylvia still has the 2003 “pink” issue of Dialogue (36:3).
