In this episode of the Dialogue Out Loud Podcast, join Dialogue Poetry Editor Terresa Wellborn as she engages in a profound conversation with poets Hilary Brown and Heidi Naylor. Both poets have contributed to the Summer 2024 issue of *Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought*, available now for free on dialoguejournal.com.

Hilary Brown, born in Salt Lake City, is the eldest of six sisters and a graduate of Utah State University. As a dedicated public school teacher in a border town, she focuses on alternative education and drop-out prevention. Hilary’s current project, a memoir written in verse, explores her personal experiences with scrupulosity. She resides in Arizona with her husband, Neil, their recently adopted baby daughter, and two dogs. Her poem, “Tanka: Upon Finding Out the Colorado Springs Murderer Is Mormon,” delves into the complexities of identity and violence within the Mormon community.

Heidi Naylor, an English professor at Boise State University, is the author of the short story collection *Revolver*, published by BCC Press in April 2018. Her poem, “Newborn,” offers a contrasting perspective on Mormon culture through the lens of new life and beginnings.

Together, Hilary and Heidi’s works provide a compelling exploration of Mormon culture through the opposing prisms of life and death. Tune in to hear their insights and reflections on their poetry and its place in the broader conversations about Mormon culture and experience.
