Fall 2024 Issue Overview

In this episode of *Dialogue Out Loud*, join host and editor Taylor Petrey as he provides an overview of the Fall 2024 issue of *Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought*. This episode features conversations with subject editors, who discuss the highlights from each section, including articles, short stories, poetry, and book reviews. Together, they explore themes ranging from theological debates on Gethsemane and atonement, to historical perspectives on Brigham Young during the Utah War, to reflections on loss, memory, and identity in personal essays and poetry.

A special section of the issue is dedicated to a roundtable discussion honoring the fiftieth anniversary of Lester Bush’s landmark 1973 article, “Mormonism’s Negro Doctrine: An Historical Overview,” first published in *Dialogue*. The roundtable features reflections from Robert A. Rees, Gregory A. Prince, and others on how this article contributed to the eventual 1978 change in church policy, as well as ongoing racial conversations within the church.

This issue also includes stunning artwork by Rocio Vasquez Cisneros, a Mexican-American artist based in Utah, and Nigerian artist Lasisi Richard Olagunju, whose works bring a unique visual depth to the journal. Their art serves as a vivid complement to the literary content, blending cultural heritage with modern expressions of faith and identity.
