DARRELL SPENCER, Stocker Professor of Creative Writing, Ohio Uni￾versity, grew up in Las Vegas, where he painted signs, roofed, played sports from sunrise to sunset, and learned the town, then taught at Brigham Young University for twelve years. He and his wife Kate, an artist and fre￾quenter of estate auctions, live in Athens with their dog, Eddie.
