OBERT PAUL is associate professor of history and philosophy of science at Dickinson Col￾lege, Carlisle, Pennsylvania. A specialist in the development of science since the Renaissance, he has recently completed a study of the origin and development of the plurality of worlds idea in early Mormon thought and is currently undertaking a study of Orson Pratt, natural theology, and nineteenth-century science.
