R. JOHN WILLIAMS is a Ph.D. candidate in comparative literature at the University of California, Irvine. He also has articles forthcoming in Comparative Critical Studies and Postmodern Culture. His dissertation deals with the convergence of Cold War American Orientalism, Asian American literature, and the politics of multilingualism.
