Dr. Terryl L. Givens joins us to talk about his newest book, Stretching the Heavens: The Life of Eugene England and the Crisis of Modern Mormonism. Eugene England was one of the primary founders of Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought in 1966, an English professor at Brigham Young University, and one of the leading intellectuals in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1966 until his death in 2001, speaking forcefully and compassionately about theology, humanitarianism, history, and literature. Dr. Givens, a Neal A. Maxwell Senior Fellow at Brigham Young University, talks about England’s life and ideas, including his bumpy relationship with Church and university leaders, and compares those years to today.
