In this episode of Dialogue Out Loud, fiction editors Joe Plicka and Ryan Shoemaker interview authors Reed Richards and Gabriel González Núñez about their short fiction pieces featured in the Summer 2024 issue of Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought.
Gabriel González Núñez’s “A Man Born When He Is Old” takes us to ancient Judea, where Cleopas, a Zealot passionate about liberating his people from Roman rule, encounters Jesus of Nazareth. Expecting a revolutionary ally, Cleopas instead finds himself transformed by Jesus’ teachings, leading to a spiritual awakening that reshapes his life.
Reed Richards’ “Mr. Lind” offers a poignant exploration of mortality, religion, and relationships. The story follows Mr. Lind, who is grappling with aging and the distance growing between him and his sons. As his health declines, he reflects on his choices and faith while contending with Ziner, a practical yet detached presence in his final days.
Join us for a thoughtful discussion on storytelling, faith, and the power of fiction to explore deep human questions.
